Fat freezing
How does fat freezing work? Cryolipolysis explained
What happens to fat cells during cryolipolysis, how a session works and what to expect afterwards.

Fat freezing, known medically as cryolipolysis, is a non-surgical way to reduce stubborn pockets of fat. Many people know it as CoolSculpting, which is a brand name. At RB Clinics we use the Clatuu Alpha, a modern cryolipolysis system. The idea comes from research into how fat cells react to cold: they are more sensitive to low temperatures than the surrounding skin and tissue.
How a cryolipolysis session works
Cryolipolysis is not surgery and involves no needles. An applicator gently draws the treatment area in with vacuum and cools it in a controlled way for about 50 minutes. The cooled fat cells break down over time and your body clears them naturally. The first changes can appear after a few weeks, and the final result usually becomes visible after two to three months.
Why people choose fat freezing
It is a non-invasive option for fat that does not respond well to diet and exercise, with no anaesthesia and no planned downtime. Many clients use the time to read, work or relax. It is often chosen as an alternative to liposuction or CoolSculpting, but it is not a weight-loss treatment. It works best for people close to a healthy weight.
What it feels like and possible side effects
At the start you feel a pulling sensation and intense cold, which usually fades within minutes as the area becomes numb. Afterwards the area is massaged briefly. Temporary redness, swelling, tingling or numbness can occur and normally settles by itself. Your specialist discusses suitability and possible contraindications during the free consultation.
