Fat freezing
After cryolipolysis: what can you expect?
From the first hours after treatment to the final result: a practical guide to recovery and results.

Cryolipolysis, often called CoolSculpting after a well-known brand, uses controlled cold to target fat cells. Fat cells react more strongly to cold than skin and other tissue, which makes a targeted, non-surgical treatment possible. Some people need one session, others choose a course of several sessions, depending on the area and the amount of fat.
Where cryolipolysis comes from
Cryolipolysis was cleared by the FDA in 2010 as a non-surgical fat reduction treatment. It was first used for areas such as the double chin and later for the abdomen, upper arms and thighs. It is intended for people close to a healthy weight with local areas of fat.
How the treatment works
The applicator draws in the skin and fat with gentle vacuum and cools the area for about 50 minutes. You feel pulling and cold at first, which usually fades as the area becomes numb. Many clients read, work on a laptop or watch a film during the session.
After your treatment
You can return to your normal day. The area may feel sensitive, and temporary redness, swelling or numbness can occur. These effects normally fade by themselves.
When results appear
Your body clears the treated fat cells gradually, so it takes a few weeks before you notice a difference. The final result is usually visible after a few months. Results vary from person to person.
